“Loophole” is an, incomplete and currently shelved, short animated film about the surreal journey of a young woman who finds herself stuck in an absurd looping existence.
Currently this project exists as an oil-on-paper, stop-motion animation trailer and an accompanying storyboard book. This project has been developed as part of the MA Sequential Design / Illustration course at the University of Brighton and is intended to be developed into a 15-minute short film.
Designed for an adult audience, Loophole explores the philosophical notion of the absurd by means of a surreal narrative. A teaser clip can be viewed above while the images beneath show some screen-shots and storyboards.
The illustration for the film poster – titled Maia’s Morning Malaise – has been awarded the AOI World Illustration Awards 2016 – Advertising (New Talent) award, was exhibited at Somerset House and is currently touring the UK throughout 2016 / 2017.
Loophole is written, directed and animated by myself and the sound design is the work of long time collaborator Danjeli.
