Numerous activities have been organised as part of the Poetry in Potato Bags (an initiative spearheaded by Maltese cultural foundation Valletta 2018 and Inizjamed) that involves exchange of poetry between Malta and the Netherlands. Two of these events were Poezija mill-Hamrija and iii għal ikel and both involved an evening dedicated to poetry exploring humble food crops.

The illustrated posters needed to somehow link the two, usually disparate worlds, of poetry and that of potatoes as well as other crops. This initially felt like a daunting task since anything involving potatoes can instantly turn into meme-able material when put out on the merciless internet.

However, the posters were very well received and the fact that there was some deciphering to be done from the part of the viewer contributed to the artworks being more memorable and effective.
