Benjamin’s Dream (Translation from “Il-Holma ta’ Benjamin”) is an oil painting inspired by the brilliant and intriguing novel “Rokit” by author Loranne Vella (Merlin Publisher).
The selected scene depicts the protagonist as he observes his home from afar in a vivid dream he experiences. It is particularly crucial to the novel’s narrative because it encapsulates the themes of recursiveness, isolation and introspection. In the painting, the point of view and the Magritte inspired mirror are also meant to emphasise notions of anonymity and the elusive search for identity.
